Australia official ABR evidence

Australian ABN checks with clear GST boundaries

Look up an Australian Business Number through official ABN Lookup when the integration is configured.

Australia uses GST rather than VAT. SENTINEL routes an 11-digit ABN to the Australian Business Register’s official ABN Lookup service only when the required access configuration is available.

Verification workflow

A controlled route from identifier to evidence.

  1. 01

    Enter the 11-digit ABN

The ABN is normalized and checksum-validated before an official request is attempted.

  2. 02

    Review ABR-returned facts

Business name, entity type, ABN status and GST registration are shown only when returned.

  3. 03

    Respect the legal-status boundary

ABR evidence does not establish ASIC company legal status or replace an ASIC extract.

Evidence guide

What this check means in practice.

01

What is an ABN?

An Australian Business Number is an 11-digit identifier used for dealings with government and other businesses. SENTINEL validates the format and checksum before lookup.

02

What can ABN Lookup return?

The official ABR service can return the entity or business name, ABN status, entity type, location, GST registration and an ACN where the response includes it.

03

Is GST the same as VAT?

No. Australia uses Goods and Services Tax. Australian ABNs are not sent to European Commission VIES and the interface labels the tax fact as GST.

04

Does an active ABN prove company legal status?

No. An active ABN supports ABR business-registration evidence. Complete corporate legal status and filings remain within ASIC’s remit.
